Warren Buffett: I would support Bloomberg if he ran for president
Businessman Warren Buffett on Monday said that he would back former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg if he ran for the Democratic presidential nomination.
“If Mike Bloomberg announced tomorrow that he was a candidate, I would say I’m for him,” Buffett told CNBC.
“I think he would be a very good president," he added.
The Berkshire Hathaway CEO and longtime supporter of the Democratic Party said he and Bloomberg differ on some issues, but that he believes the former mayor "knows how to run things."
Buffett added that he's hopeful "no third-party candidate runs" in 2020.
"I think third-party candidates can thwart, actually, the will of the people," Buffett told CNBC.
Bloomberg has not yet indicated whether he will run for president in 2020, but has said he will run as a Democrat if he chooses to do so. That decision came after former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz announced he was mulling a White House bid as an independent.
Democrats have criticized Schultz, warning that his candidacy could pull votes from their candidate in 2020 and help President Trump win reelection.
A number of high-profile candidates have already waded into the 2020 presidential race, including Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.)
